Verrucous carcinoma of the larynx presented with overexpression of p53 antigen in a similar percentage to other head and neck cancers. The p53 immunohistochemical determination is well correlated with HPV detection and could have prognostic value in these tumours, but no statistical evidence was present. The National Cancer Data Base had 2350 cases of verrucous carcinoma of the head and neck diagnosed between 1985 and 1996. Statistical procedures included chi‐square analyses, Student t tests, and relative survival. RESULTS. Tumors originated most frequently in the oral cavity (55.9%) and larynx (35.2%). Throat cancer (laryngeal cancer) is a general term that usually refers to cancer of the pharynx and/or larynx (voice box).Regions included when considering throat cancer include the pharynx (nasopharynx, oropharynx, hypopharynx [cancers that occur in the tissues of the throat adjacent to the larynx], glottis, supraglottis, and subglottis); about half of throat cancers develop in the larynx 1994-01-01 · REFERENCES 1.

Verrucous carcinoma may involve the oral cavity, larynx, anogenital region, plantar surface of the foot, and, less commonly, other cutaneous sites. Verrucous papillary lesions (VPLs) of oral cavity are diagnostically challenging as they include a spectrum of benign, potentially malignant, and frankly malignant lesions.

[5,6] Surgery is still the primary treatment, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy as adjuvant therapy. Verrucous carcinoma of the larynx clinically resembles laryngeal papilloma in that both are wart-like masses on the vocal cords and may be characterized by multifocality and recurrence. Human papillomavirus (HPV) infection is an etiological factor in laryngeal papilloma, and recent evidence implicates HPV in squamous neoplasias. Locally destructive but almost never metastasizes; associated cervical adenopathy may be reactive and not metastatic disease. Usually men in 50s to 60s; associated with tobacco smoking or chewing. Verrucous carcinoma is a rare variant of squamous cell carcinoma. It was first reported as an exogenous and well-differentiated variant by Ackerman in 1948. The oral cavity, genitals, larynx, esophagus, and skin are usually involved, and the head and neck regions are the most affected areas. Verrucous carcinoma is a variant of squamous cell carcinoma that is often found in the oral cavity, skin and larynx. It rarely occurs in the genital tract, especially in the cervix.
